A brief history of the Polyclinic Škoda

The provision of health services has a long tradition at Škoda Auto a.s., which dates back to 1941. In its beginnings, it was about ensuring the entrance examinations of new employees, work hygiene and possibly medical care, which focused on the most exposed workplaces. At that time, prevention was not given much attention, and a turnaround occurred only in the 1950s. In the 1980s, health services were centralized in the Polyclinic Škoda building, but surgeries were also located directly in the company's individual production facilities so that care was as accessible as possible to employees. In connection with the organizational and administrative changes after 1989 and the subsequent privatization of the Czech healthcare system, the Škoda Auto a.s. facility acquired the status of a non-state medical facility with the main focus on providing preventive examinations and supporting the health of employees.
